Another Dusting and Winter Prep Continues

The expected cold weather did indeed arrive with a dusting of snow this morning, Friday, November 10.

The Big Question - Making Snow?

With such a small window and changing winds in this cold snap, it's just too short of a period for us to lay down anything that's going to stick around.  With warm weather and precipitation forecasted in the next few days, we are looking for a bigger window to work with for snowmaking.

Winter Preparations Continue

With over $600,000 invested on the hill this past summer, most of that is underground so you won't be able to see the improvements until we fire up the snowmaking system.  None the less, here's a list of all the hard work our Mountain Ops Crew did:

  • Over 1,300’ of snowmaking pipe replaced throughout the mountain
  • 11 lateral pipes totaling 200’
  • 17 plug-in and safety disconnect boxes
  • New motor control drive installed on low side snowmaking system on pump #1
  • New flow meter was installed down at the lake to better monitor water usage

  • Chair #1 – new gear box installed in the main lift drive
  • Chair #2 & #3 had all terminals cleared of rust, primed and painted including all lift structures, motor rooms and control shacks
  • Chair #4 – top return bull wheel was taken down to the ground, NDT inspected and new bearings installed
  • Chair #6 & #7 had motors removed, serviced by motor service company and reinstalled
  • Chair #7 had main haul cable shortened and re-spliced

3,240’ feet of electrical wires that provided power to various lifts and snowmaking operations was replaced and armored.

Our Team is just as anxious as all you skiers and snowboarders to flip the switch and start cranking out the snow!  Bring on Winter!
