Snow and Safety

Another midweek day, another snowfall!  We've got a few fresh inches on the slopes this morning with up to 6 inches of possible accumulation in the next 24 hours.  Today's the perfect day to do some hot laps on the hill with little to no lift lines, fresh snow and mid-twenty temps. POW-POW!  Snowmaking will resume later this evening to pump up the base and refresh some areas.

National Safety Month

The National Ski Areas Association (NSAA) declared January National Safety Month in a nation-wide effort to bring awareness to safety at ski resorts.  Over the next few weeks, we'll highlight different safety programs and messages.  Please read, learn and practice!

Skier & Rider Responsibility Code

  1. Always stay in control, and be able to stop or avoid other people or objects.
  2. People ahead of you have the right of way. It is your responsibility to avoid them.
  3. You must not stop where you obstruct a trail, or are not visible from above.
  4. Whenever starting downhill or merging into a trail, look uphill and yield to others.
  5. Always use devices to help prevent runaway equipment.
  6. Observe all posted signs and warnings. Keep off closed trails and out of closed areas.
  7. Prior to using any lift, you must have the knowledge and ability to load, ride and unload safely.

KNOW THE CODE: IT'S YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. THIS IS A PARTIAL LIST.  BE SAFETY CONSCIOUS.

Ski Patrol

There is one department whose top priority is SAFETY.  And by safety, we mean Guest Safety.  The Wisp Ski Patrol has the monumental task of keeping our slopes (along with tubing hill and other areas) safe for guests to recreate on and caring for guests when an incident occurs.

Recently, December 2017, Wisp Ski Patrol managed an incident on the slopes where a young adult was involved.  The Patrol Team present was recognized by the mother of the injured in a touching letter and shortly thereafter was thanked by the Ownership and Management of Wisp Resort.  We share this letter as a testimony to all of the Ski Patrollers at Wisp Resort -- Thank You! -- click here to read the letter.  Below is the Wisp Patrol Team of 6 that responded to the incident.  Also pictured is the entire Wisp Patrol Team of the 17.18 Winter Season - Go Team!

More Terrain Opened

Surface conditions are super plush right now making for some fantastic skiing and snowboarding!  Despite cold temps and gusty winds, there are lots of happy faces on the slopes (you just can't see the smiles through the face masks).  A total of 12 trails have been opened this week for a grand total of 33 trails equating to 136 acres of terrain.  See you on the slopes!

Stay Safe & Warm

Be sure to bundle up and reduce exposure in the elements.  Stop by Outdoor Elements, Rossignol Concept Shop or Vertical Drop Shop to pick up any face masks, new gloves, hats, hand warmers and other ski essentials.

Frigid Friday

With 2" of new snow and groomers performing well overnight, the snow surface is in prime condition.  Temperatures are stuck in the single or negative digits and Garrett County is under a Wind Chill Warning until 3pm Saturday so please dress accordingly and use safe practices on the slopes by taking frequent breaks and using the buddy system.  If winds do impede safe operating measures, we may experience possible wind holds or delays in operations.  Please check the Mountain Report for up-to-date information.

Stage Wisp Kick-off Concert - cancelled

As exited as we were to kick-off the Stage Wisp Winter Concert Series, we had to cancel the concert tonight for the safety of the artists and concern for our guests.  This gives us cause to get doubly excited about next week's concert that kicks off Martin Luther King Weekend on Friday, January 12 with Optimus Riff Trio and Star Hill Brewery.
