The developers and owners of Wisp Resort represent three family groups who have demonstrated lasting commitments to both the future and the environment of Garrett County, Maryland, for more than 30 years.

The land-holding company for Wisp Resort was formed in 1994 as DC Development, LLC, with the acquisition of fee-simple title and/or options for 2,388 acres of land that surrounded the ski and golf operations of Wisp.  Over the years, approximately 700 adjacent additional acres were purchased, making the total land area in excess of 3,000 acres.  

In 2001, the ski and golf operations entity of Wisp Resort (Recreational Industries, Inc.) was acquired by the partners in order to provide an enhanced and rejuvenated resort operation adjacent to the 3,000-acre development parcel.

Since that time, the partners have invested over $30 million in capital improvements to bring a tired and worn resort operation up to first-class status. In so doing, they increased the skiing and snowboarding terrain by 33 percent, implemented a state-of-the-art snowmaking system, built a snow tubing park, built an 11,000 square foot addition to the Base Lodge, contributed to the refurbishment of the Wisp Resort Hotel, added an Orvis-endorsed fly fishing service and many new “outdoor adventures” as well as the “Mountain Coaster” -only the fourth of its kind in the United States.
