Ski or Snowboard?
If this is your first time on the slopes, you may be trying to decide
which is right for you. --Skiing or snowboarding. This is a quick
breakdown of both sports to possibly help you make an informed decision.
Skiing and snowboarding are alike in that they are both downhill sports
and they both can offer you countless hours of fun and excitement in the snow.
Skiers use skies to navigate. Snowboarders use their body to navigate.
Snowboard riders have to constantly exert energy
to remain on the edge while they are stationary or not moving.
Snowboarding will not have the advantage of poles to help you remain upright
or standing when you are not moving.
Snowboarding offers the individual less stress on the knees compared to skiing.
On the other hand, snowboarding can be extremely challenging for your wrists.
Wrist guards are highly suggested.
Snowboading may start to develop an aversion to “flats” (terrain that is relatively flat) when
you begin snowboarding. Again, you won’t have ski polls to help you in this situation
while on a snowboard.
Snowboarding is great in softer snow and also works nicely in powder.
Skis on the other hand are better in bumps and ice.
