We are honored to host The Blind Skier 50th Anniversary Gala by Deep Creek Lake Lion’s Club. The Lion’s Club has planned a glamourous night on Tuesday, February 7, including guest speakers, dinner, dancing, fireworks, and silent auction.
The program was brought to Deep Creek Lake in 1973 after Bill Thoman, former mountain manager of Wisp Resort, and Jay Kamineck, a ski instructor, were skiing in Colorado when they saw sighted volunteers assisting young people with vision challenges in skiing down a mountainside. The club has since taught hundreds of visually impaired children to downhill ski.
To celebrate their 50th Anniversary, the gala will include keynote by Brian McKeever, paralympic gold medalist in cross-country skiing, dinner and cash bar, and an awards program to recognize long-time all-stars to the program.
