Let the Countdown begin!

From a sunny day to a beautiful night, Wisp Resort is preparing for a projected opening date of Friday, December 14.  The Wisp Resort team has been working overnight the last several weeks to keep the snow guns operating at max power.  Over the weekend, the wind came in fierce from the South which delayed some operations on the mountain.  When winds are Southerly, most of the guns cannot be operated for two reasons: (1) wind coming from this direction pushes the plume out of the gun's back onto itself, which does not allow for snow crystallization to take place (2) wind blows water back onto the gun, which can ice up the shell and ultimately damage the equipment. When these Southerly winds occur, our team re-positions all mobile guns on the mountain, but many snow guns have to be shut down. With that said, the resort was still flowing 2,800 to 3,000 gallons per minute in challenging times over the weekend.  Thank you snowmaking team!  With Squirrel Cage, Face, Central Park (terrain park), and the Tubing Park nearing a desired base, the team has moved on to cover other areas of the mountain and will continue to make its way around throughout the week: Sunset, Wisp Trail, Grouse, Beaver, Muskrat, Boulder, Happy Camper, Backbone, Aces, Big Dipper and Ridge are starting to pile up. Wisp Resort plans to keep the snow guns rolling through Thursday evening when we hit a little temperature bubble on top of the mountain.  The snowmaking team has projected the resort will open with a base depth average of 18 to 36 inches of fluffy snow. Let the countdown begin!

We've Got Whales Swimming!

The Mountain Operations team at Wisp Resort has kept a steady snowmaking flow since late Monday evening.  The front side of the mountain is well covered and the snowtubing park is starting to shape-up nicely.  We accumulated about 3 inches of natural snow overnight that helped cover the mountain.  With temperatures dropping tomorrow, the team is hoping to start building up Main Street in the evening.  Check out those massive piles of snow!

Wisp Resort is targeting to open on December 14th.   More details to come as snowmaking continues...

Here Comes Winter!

We turned on our snowmaking guns around 3am this morning, attempting to push through marginal temperatures and high humidity.  The weather is forecast to be more conducive to snowmaking as the day goes on, so we are planning to push through for the remainder of this window.  We are still anticipating to open by mid-December.

Gearing Up for Another Burst of Winter Weather

With milder temps and a bit of under-developed snow, Wisp Resort has been in a holding pattern on snowmaking since late last week. We are pushing through this last rain event and plan to be back on track with snowmaking operations sometime tomorrow when weather permits. Stay tuned for snowmaking updates.

In the meantime, stop by the newly renovated lobby at The Lodge at Wisp.  This was the final phase of the $3.9 million multi-year renovation project.  Be sure to arrive in the new entrance on the other side of the hotel to get the full experience with Porte Cochere, waterfall and welcoming outdoor fireplace.  We are so pleased with the all of the results and know our guests will be too.
