Stellar Conditions for 70 Years

Founded in 1955 by one very driven and hardworking entrepreneur Helmuth “Ace” Heise, Wisp Resort introduced snow sports to the state of Maryland and developed a newfound passion for the winter season in Garrett County.

We’ve had an excellent start to our 70th season and can’t wait to go all out for our Platinum Anniversary weekend-long celebration starting THIS Friday, January 9th. Surface conditions are superb with hidden powder stashes still to be found across the mountain and groomers with some grab and crunch including our newest addition to the trail count, Ace’s Run, named after our legendary founder.

Whether you’re new to the Wisp community or are a longstanding season passholder, you won’t want to miss this milestone celebration. Here’s what’s in store.

Platinum Weekend Celebration

Wisp Platinum Anniversary Weekend – Friday, January 9 – Sunday, January 11

We’re another year older on Maryland’s Mountaintop, and we’d like to think we’ve aged pretty well. Wisp Resort opened in 1955 on an old cow pasture to offer skiing on Marsh Mountain. The first season featured a one-room hut warmed by a pot-bellied stove, one ski trail, The Face, serviced by a truck engine-powered tow rope, and ski rentals out of a pickup truck bed. Let’s face it, we’ve been here a while, and we couldn’t have made it to our Platinum Anniversary without the support from you and yours. Dive into the festivities and get ready for a weekend of Platinum Deals including:

Friday, January 9th – Day Lift Tickets: $19.55

Saturday, January 10th – Night Lift Tickets: $19.55

Sunday, January 11th – Learn To Ski / Learn To Snowboard Package: $70

And yes – you can, and should, purchase online in advance to secure your spot on the mountain for this milestone celebration!

This Friday, January 9 kick-off the weekend with $19.55 ALL DAY Platinum Lift Ticket. After a day out on the slopes, après in Last Chair Bar + Bistro with Herb & Hanson from 4:30 pm – 7:30 pm. Then, get ready to see 70 years of Wisp unfold in the McHenry Lodge with the premiere of historical Wisp documentary – Making of Maryland’s Ski Resort – Tribute to a True Pioneer. See the development of Wisp unfold and hear from key players in the makings of the resort.

Then, On Saturday, January 10 hear from state and local dignitaries about how 70 years of Wisp Resort has shaped Garrett County during the cake cutting ceremony – featuring a picture worthy birthday cake from Charm City Cakes. After getting your fill of cake, hit the slopes with $19.55 Platinum Night Lift Ticket. Après the platinum way on the beer garden deck from 3 pm – 8 pm with DJ Louie The XIII before the second showing of historical Wisp documentary: Making of Maryland’s Ski Resort – Tribute to a True Pioneer. Then, bundle up and head to the base of Squirrel Cage to watch a commemorative torchlight parade performed by patrol members, ski/snowboard instructors, and members of the Deep Creek Winter Sports Team.

Close Out The Celebration On Sunday, January 11th learning to ski or ride with a $70 Learn to Ski / Learn to Snowboard Package with slots offered all day. Bring tiny Wisp trinkets and memorabilia to seal in the 70th anniversary time capsule – only to be opened at the 100th anniversary of the resort!
