Winter Keeps On Coming

This morning, at the crack of dawn, a little groundhog confirmed 6 more weeks of winter for all of us on Maryland’s Mountaintop. While some in the audience groaned, we cracked a smile. Six more weeks of winter means six more weeks of shredding and confirms that winter is here for the long haul.

The 10-day forecast is keeping our smiles wide as we noticed a few more inches of snow on the way adding to the 88” that have already fallen on the mountain. There’s no time like now to strike while the iron is hot or in this case… cold and snowy (but not as cold as last week) and enjoy all that the mountain has to offer. Today specifically was a beautiful bluebird day perfect for carving with a smooth surface and notes of fresh powder. Our pick this week is Whipsaw and the word on the street is Odin’s Chute keeps you coming back for seconds.

At this point if you haven’t been on the mountain, what could you possibly be waiting for? With so many trails open in prime condition, how can you say no? Boot up and hop on the lift. There’s plenty of winter left to ride.

Staying Warm on the Mountain

Just like the mountain during this cold snap, it’s time to layer up and stay warm while making the most of these incredible conditions. Follow these tips to stay comfortable and keep the stoke high:

Layer up – Moisture-wicking base, insulating mid-layer, and a warm outer shell
Cover exposed skin – Face masks, goggles, neck gaiters, scarves, helmets, and gloves are key
Take warm-up breaks – Fuel up with hot food and drinks at McHenry Lodge or the Sundown Yurt
Add extra heat – Hand and toe warmers help keep yourself extra toasty
